The son of a fortune teller, Zachary is more inclined to believe in stories and magic than the average video games student. As much as he loves video games, he studies them more out of expectation fulfillment than passion; whether in a game or in a novel, his true love is the story.
His worldview is challenged when he discovers a book detailing an event in his life, when he had the opportunity to reach for a new world and failed to do so. Zachary embarks on a quest to discover all he can about the mysterious book, which leads him to a place and to Dorian, a person he did not know he was seeking. During his adventures, Zachary is forced to confront the concept of fate and his own tendency to lean upon it to absolve him of responsibility for his choices. Zachary’s experiences challenge his ideas and empower him to take full ownership of his agency, creating the long-lasting bonds of relationship, which he has lacked and for which he has subconsciously longed.
Pink-haired and outspoken, Mirabel is never predictable. She insists on calling Zachary by his middle name and he returns the favor by calling her Max in reference to the costume she wore when they met at a literary masquerade.
