Ophelia dresses and prepares herself for the Violence level. She, Cade, and Charlotte arrive, as Leon forfeited after being chased by his greatest fear, crows. A Devil appears and, without introduction, gives them their hint: “A choice of two tokens, a decision to make, if all only take one, nothing is at stake. If two choose one, and the third takes all, the third will walk, the others will brawl. If two choose all, and the third takes one, the third will be free, the other two are done” (334). Cade and Charlotte go in first, and Blackwell goes to the Other Side to see how many tokens they take. Cade takes both, and Charlotte only takes one. Ophelia decides to fight Cade, so she takes both tokens.

Ophelia and Cade fight violently. At one point, Cade rips her locket off, and her heart slows almost to a stop. She gets her locket back on and subdues Cade. She manages to use her magic to blast Cade, melting his skull and killing him. The Shadow Voice sings with joy at her use of violence.
